Solar, 4G and Wi-Fi describe different parts of a camera setup. Solar is a power source. 4G and Wi-Fi are ways to connect. A camera can use solar power and 4G together, which is how our available site camera bundle works.
How do construction site security cameras work?
Separate three questions when comparing systems: what powers the camera, how you connect to it, and what it records.
Our solar bundle uses a panel and battery to power two cameras. An included 4G SIM provides connectivity for app access. Both cameras record continuously, 24/7, with event recording and 10-day playback. You manage viewing and response; staffed monitoring is not included.
The upcoming fixed camera on our hired temporary power poles also uses solar and battery power with 4G. It will record events only and is not yet available to book.
Do construction site security cameras need Wi-Fi?
A 4G camera does not need a site Wi-Fi network. It uses the mobile network for connectivity. You still need a working connection on the device you use to access the app.
A Wi-Fi camera depends on a suitable network at its location, including the router's power and internet connection. Having Wi-Fi in a site office does not by itself confirm coverage at the camera position.
What affects 4G coverage on a building site?
Signal must be checked at the exact site and proposed camera position. Nearby buildings, terrain and other obstructions can affect the connection. A suburb name or coverage map is not a guarantee that every part of a block has usable signal.
Send the site address with your enquiry so we can review suitability. Tell us if the build or stored materials later obstruct the camera or its connection.
How do solar cameras work when it is cloudy?
The panel charges a battery, and the battery supplies the cameras. Available sunlight, shading and camera use affect charging and endurance. We do not promise a fixed number of days without charging for the two-camera bundle.
Check where the sun reaches the panel as the building rises. If a new wall, scaffold or nearby tree shades it, contact us to review the position. The 10-day playback window is a footage-retention period, not a battery-runtime claim.
Can I install CCTV without Wi-Fi?
Yes, a system with another suitable connection can operate without Wi-Fi. Our hire package uses 4G and is supplied with its dedicated pole, solar panel and battery. We arrange installation as part of the quoted hire.
We do not offer camera-only hire or fitting to customer-owned poles or fences. See the solar camera package for what is supplied.
Is Wi-Fi or a wired connection better?
Compare the infrastructure available at the camera position. Wired and Wi-Fi systems can suit sites with the necessary power and network. A solar/4G package can suit a location without those connections, provided sunlight and mobile signal are suitable.
There is no useful universal reliability ranking without knowing the installation. Power loss, network outages and obstructions can affect different setups in different ways.
Do security cameras record all the time?
Some packages record continuously and others capture events only. Both cameras in our available solar bundle record continuously, 24/7. Recordings are deleted after 10 days, so download important footage before then.
The upcoming camera attached to our hired temporary power poles will record events only. Do not assume it has the solar bundle's continuous playback or retention period.
Is higher resolution always better?
Resolution is one part of the result. The area in view, distance, lighting and obstructions also affect what footage can show. Ask about the view you need rather than choosing from a resolution number alone.
Our solar bundle has a fixed spot camera for a selected priority area and a pan/tilt camera for a wider view. A gate is one possible fixed view; it does not have to be the front gate. Reliable number-plate capture is not an offered feature.
What should I check about outdoor conditions?
Ask about the mounting position, exposure and access needed for the installation. A solar panel needs sunlight, and a camera needs an unobstructed view. Outdoor equipment is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation through every weather event.
If site conditions change or the app shows a problem, contact us to review it. Do not move the pole or mounting yourself.
What is included in the solar bundle?
The package includes a dedicated pole, panel and battery, a fixed spot camera and a pan/tilt camera, plus 4G connectivity and app access. It is hired as a complete bundle.

Which setup should I ask about?
