What is a stayless power pole?

A stayless power pole is a self-supporting temporary power pole that stands without external metal support stays. Where a traditional stayed pole braces itself with stays anchored a metre or more from the base, a stayless design gets its stability from a heavier pole section set into a deeper, engineered footing — so the only ground it occupies is the pole itself.

That smaller footprint is the whole point. On narrow lots, zero-boundary builds, and townhouse or infill projects, the clear space a stayed pole needs often simply isn't there — or the stays would cross a driveway, footpath or work area and become a daily trip hazard. Commercial sites with tight laydown areas run into the same problem. A stayless pole frees that space while doing the same job: temporary builder's supply (TBS) from site establishment until permanent power is connected.

The electrical requirements don't change. Every temporary builders' pole — stayed or stayless — must be installed to the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules and meet AS/NZS 3012 requirements for construction and demolition sites. A stayless design meets the same standards through its engineering: the heavier section and deeper footing replace the stays, not the compliance.

We're preparing a stayless option for Brisbane and South East Queensland now. The final pole, footing and site-suitability specifications are subject to engineering sign-off and will be published at launch — until then, stayless hire isn't available to book, and registering your interest helps us plan launch coverage. If your site has room for stays, our stayed builder's site poles are available today.

What is a stayless power pole?
A stayless pole is a self-supporting temporary power pole that doesn't need external metal support stays. Its stability comes from a heavier pole section and a deeper engineered footing, which gives it a much smaller ground footprint than a stayed pole. Our final pole and footing specifications will be published when the service launches.
When should I choose stayless over stayed?
Once available, a stayless pole may suit a tight site — including narrow lots, builds close to boundaries, or locations where metal support stays would cross driveways or footpaths. Stayed poles remain the available and more cost-effective option for sites with enough clear space.
Are stayless power poles available now?
No. Poles and Holes stayless power pole hire is coming soon, and a launch date has not yet been confirmed. Register your interest and tell us your suburb and project timing so we can keep you updated.
How much will stayless power pole hire cost?
Stayless hire pricing has not yet been announced. It will be published when the service, configurations and launch coverage are confirmed. Register your interest to receive the launch details.
How deep is the foundation for a stayless pole?
Stayless footings are engineered case by case, but designs of this type typically sit around 1.2–1.5 metres deep depending on soil conditions, pole height and wind loading — the deeper footing is what replaces the stays. We'll publish our confirmed installation specifications at launch and assess each site before accepting a stayless booking.
Can a stayless pole support three-phase power?
We are planning both single-phase and three-phase stayless configurations. Neither is available to hire yet, and final configurations will be confirmed at launch. Register your interest if your site needs three-phase power so we can understand demand.
What happens to the foundation hole when the pole is removed?
The planned hire service includes pole removal and restoration of the foundation area at the end of hire. The final removal method will depend on the launched footing design and site conditions and will be confirmed in your quote.
