Self-supporting power poles eliminate the need for metal stays, making them ideal for tight residential blocks where boundary clearances are limited. Traditional stayed poles require metal support stays extending 2-3 metres from the base in multiple directions, which can obstruct driveways, footpaths, and planned building works. Our stayless poles are engineered to withstand wind loads without external bracing, using a heavier pole section and deeper concrete foundation for stability. This gives them a ground footprint of approximately one square metre compared to the much larger exclusion zone needed for a stayed installation. Stayless poles are particularly popular on narrow lots, corner blocks, and sites where the pole position would conflict with vehicle access or construction activity.

Product Overview

Fast, Reliable Site Power for Residential Builders

For residential builders, getting power to site quickly and reliably is non-negotiable. Our builder's site power poles are the go-to solution for new home builds, knockdown rebuilds, and renovation projects across South East Queensland. We've been powering building sites since 1960 — we know the process inside and out.

Every builder's pole installation includes:

  • Hardware delivery
  • Professional installation by our licensed electricians
  • Same-day EWR lodgement with Energex
  • 12 weeks of rental
  • Full removal at the end of the hire

You choose the phase — single phase for standard residential builds or three phase for larger projects — and we handle the rest.

We work with volume builders, owner-builders, and individual contractors across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Ipswich. Our streamlined booking process means you can have a pole in the ground within 48 hours of confirmation, keeping your build on schedule from day one.

  • Self-supporting design — no trip hazards from metal support stays
  • AS/NZS 3000 compliant installation
  • EWR lodged with Energex on installation day
  • Engineered for wind loading to Queensland standards
  • Safety switch testing included as standard

How It Works

Typical Timeline
1

Site Assessment

Day 1

We check your site dimensions and confirm a stayless pole is suitable. Tight lots and narrow frontages are ideal candidates.

2

Installation

Day 2-3

Our crew installs the self-supporting pole with a deeper foundation. Meter box fitted and EWR lodged same day.

3

Energex Connects The Pole

5-10 Days

Your retailer raises the service order. Energex then attends to connect the overhead or underground service. This is the network connection — not yet live power.

4

Retailer Installs The Meter

+2-5 Days

Your retailer's meter provider attends a few days after Energex to fit the meter. Power only starts flowing once the meter is in.

Removal

End of hire

Once permanent power is live, we remove the pole and backfill the foundation hole.

Service Coverage

We service all major regions across South East Queensland with fast turnaround times.

Our fleet covers all of South East Queensland, from the Gold Coast through Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast. Stayless pole delivery and installation are typically completed within 48 hours of order confirmation, with same-day EWR lodgement so your Energex connection can proceed without delay.

Have questions about stayless power pole hire? Here are answers to the most common queries from builders and homeowners considering a self-supporting pole for their site.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a stayless power pole?
A stayless pole is a self-supporting temporary power pole that doesn’t require metal support stays for stability. It uses a heavier pole section and deeper foundation to remain upright without external bracing. This gives it a much smaller ground footprint than a stayed pole.
When should I choose stayless over stayed?
Choose a stayless pole when your site is tight — narrow lots, builds close to boundaries, or where metal support stays would cross driveways or footpaths. If you have plenty of open space, a stayed pole is more cost-effective.
Is a stayless pole more expensive?
Yes, slightly. Stayless poles cost more than stayed poles due to the heavier pole section and deeper foundation required for self-support. For tight sites, the extra cost is well justified. Contact us for a quote.
How deep is the foundation for a stayless pole?
The foundation depth depends on soil conditions and pole height but is typically 1.2-1.5 metres deep. Our crew bores the hole with an auger truck and backfills with concrete for stability.
Can a stayless pole support three-phase power?
Yes. We supply stayless poles in both single phase and three phase configurations. Three-phase stayless poles are common on commercial sites where space is limited but higher power capacity is needed.
What happens to the foundation hole when the pole is removed?
When we collect the pole, we remove the concrete footing and backfill the hole with clean fill. The site is left level and ready for landscaping or further construction.
