Stayed temporary power poles are the most common choice for residential construction sites across South East Queensland. The diagonal metal support stays anchored to the ground provide additional stability, making these poles suitable for exposed sites and longer hire periods. A stayed pole is the most cost-effective temporary power option and is the standard configuration used by volume builders, owner-builders, and residential construction companies throughout Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast. Our stayed poles come pre-fitted with a meter box and safety switches. Every installation includes EWR lodgement with Energex. Connection timing is confirmed at quote review rather than promised as a fixed external-provider timeframe. Whether you are building a new home, completing a knockdown rebuild, or running a renovation that requires an independent power supply, a stayed builder's pole is the proven solution. Getting one on site starts from $950 + GST: twelve weeks’ hire at $600 plus standard-zone delivery from $350. Three-phase is $1,190. Delivery outside the standard area is calculated separately. You can compare it against everything else we hire on our site power pole hire prices page.

Have questions about builder's site power pole hire? Here are answers to the most common queries from builders, owner-builders, and project managers.

Builder's site power pole hire FAQs

What is a stayed power pole?
A stayed pole uses diagonal metal support stays anchored to the ground to provide stability. It's the traditional and most common temporary power pole design used across Queensland. The stays prevent the pole from leaning under the weight of the overhead service line.
How much space do the stays require?
Three stays are installed, equally spaced at 120 degrees around the pole, each anchored about 2 metres from the base. You'll need a clear area roughly 3 metres radius around the pole position, free of planned building works and vehicle access paths, so the stays stay unobstructed for the hire period.
Should I choose a stayed or stayless pole?
Stayed poles are available now and are the traditional, most cost-effective Queensland design for sites with enough clear space. Stayless poles are coming soon and are intended for tight sites where support stays would obstruct access or planned works. Register your interest if your project may need the stayless option.
Can you advise on pole placement for my build?
Yes. Send us your site plan and we can recommend the optimal position. The pole must be within 25 metres of the street network pole for overhead connections and should not obstruct the driveway or future building footprint.
I'm a volume builder — do you offer trade pricing?
Yes. We work with many of Queensland's largest residential builders and offer competitive trade rates for ongoing accounts. Contact us to discuss volume pricing.
What's the process for a knockdown rebuild?
For knockdown rebuilds, a temporary power pole lets you avoid a costly Energex Supply Abolishment on the existing connection. This can save you $700-$2,000. We install the temp pole before demolition, and Energex transfers the supply.
Can I place materials near the metal support stays?
No. The metal support stays must remain clear and unobstructed for safety. Building materials, skip bins, and vehicles should be kept well clear of the stays. Our installer will advise on the exact exclusion zone at installation.
Do you coordinate with my electrician?
Yes. When it's time to transfer power to the permanent connection, we coordinate with your licensed electrician to ensure a smooth handover. Our team handles the pole while your sparky handles the house wiring.
What if Energex needs traffic control for the connection?
A busy-road connection may require traffic control. The relevant provider confirms its scheduling and any separate charges for the site, so allow for this during quote and connection planning.
