Legal, Safe and Fully Compliant: Your Guide to Temporary Power Poles

Make sure your construction site stays powered safely and meets all Australian regulations with Poles & Holes.

Why Legal Compliance with Temporary Power Poles Matters

Temporary power poles are essential for any construction or renovation site — but safety and legal compliance are non-negotiable. At Poles & Holes, we handle everything so your site stays fully compliant with Australian electrical standards, keeping your team safe and your project on track.

1. We Handle Paperwork, Permits and Energex Connections

  • We lodge an Electrical Work Request (EWR) with Energex on installation day.
  • You receive an EWR number to open an account with your energy retailer (we recommend Origin or AGL).
  • Energex generally connects the power within 5 to 10 business days — delays can occur due to traffic control, site access, or weather.
  • In some circumstances, we can lodge the EWR before installation to speed up the process.

2. Traffic Control May Be Required — We Keep You Informed

If your site borders a roadway shown in yellow on UBD maps:

  • Energex might require traffic control, which can add around 6 weeks to connection times.
  • Energex covers the traffic control cost, so you won’t pay extra.

3. Fully Compliant Temporary Power Pole Equipment

Our poles meet strict Australian standards, including:

  • AS 3000 Wiring Rules
  • Queensland Electricity Connection Manual (QECM)
  • AS 3012 for construction site electrical work

Every pole is:

  • Installed with proper RCD safety switches, GPO outlets, stays, earthing systems, and meter boxes
  • Tested and tagged with certification valid for six months

4. Preparing Your Site for Installation

To avoid delays:

  • Clearly mark your desired pole location, avoiding underground utilities
  • Allow sufficient space for crane access and pole stays
  • Keep the site accessible to prevent Energex failed visit fees

We’ll provide guidance on preparing your site ahead of time.

5. Flexible Hire Terms to Fit Your Project

  • Standard rental covers 12 weeks, with affordable weekly fees beyond that
  • Poles stay onsite until your project completes
  • Early removal? Ask your retailer for a Supply Abolishment, usually done within 5 to 20 business days
  • Let us know when Energex removes power wires — we’ll pick up the pole quickly

6. Ongoing Safety and Compliance

  • Each pole’s safety switch (RCD) is tested before delivery and valid for approximately 6 months
  • You’re responsible for scheduling further testing per Electrical Safety Regulations after that

Why Choose Poles & Holes?

  • We manage delivery, installation, permits, and Energex liaison from start to finish
  • Transparent pricing — no hidden fees, and any Energex or electrician costs are passed on clearly
  • Guaranteed compliance with Australian electrical standards
  • Flexible hire periods tailored to your project’s needs
